Overview

Sarawak was part of the realm of Brunei when a British Soldier and adventurer, James Brooke arrived in Sarawak in 1841. As a reward for helping the Sultanate of Brunei fight piracy and insurgency among the indigenous peoples, he was granted a sizeable area of land South West area of Brunei (present day Kuching) by the Sultanate of Brunei and confirmed the title of Rajah of the territory.

He ruled as the first white Rajah of Sarawak until his death in 1868. The dynasty continued through Brooke’s nephew and grandnephew, the later ceded his right to the United Kingdom in 1946. The British ruled Sarawak till its independence and joined the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.

Kuching is the capital city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. It is situated on the Sarawak River at the North West tip of the state on the island of Borneo. It is a major food destination for tourists and the main gateway to Semonggoh Orang Utan Centre, Sarawak Cultural Village, Bako National Park, the Sarawak Museum and Rainforerst World Music Festival.

Ibans are considered Proto-Malays in Sarawak, however their culture has been unaffected by Islamic culture. Many communities have converted to Christianity, some continue to follow indigenous beliefs. Customary practices, including rural rules, rituals, and social customs, are collectively known as Adat and remain important for Ibans.

The Iban longhouse functions as a community, each holding several families related through blood and marriage. A communal corridor runs through the building and is the location of communal activities.

Mulu National Park is located at Miri Division in Malaysian state of Sarawak in Borneo. Established as a National Park in 1974 was declared an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Area at 55000 hectares in 2000. Caves are the signature of Mulu National Park. Thick and massive limestone ensure that Mulu National Park has the largest cave passage in the world. The Deer Cave is the largest naturally enclosed space at Sarawak Chamber. The Clearwater Cave is one of the longest caves in the world.

There is another side to Mulu National Park, due to its location, it provides an isolated wilderness experience with immense rainforest and limestone caves as back drop for a rejuvenating rainforest stay in the deluxe setting of a quality Resort.
